Davison Deprived of Certain Podium

Australian Racing driver James Davison was deprived of a certain podium when he was impacted at Round 6 of the Star Mazda Championship, which was presented by Goodyear on Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland. The impact was from the rear by Canadian driver Lorenzo Mandarino.

Placing 3rd on the grid, Davison was strongly positioned to challenge for the lead on lap 22 of 28, when the race was started again after the safety car was withdrawn due to a full course yellow.

He could not express how angry he was that the mistake of another driver has cost him a certain podium, second in the points score, accident damage, unnecessary expense and, of course, frustration. He said that the drivers were informed at the briefing about the dangers of Turn 1 at Cleveland, particularly when the field is knot up at the start or restart. However, he added that as soon as the pressure was applied, some drivers forgot the basic fundamentals of motor racing and try an impossible move under brakes that cause frustrations and damages to other drivers. He further said that the spectators can only understand the anger of the team when they consider that this also happened at Portland and cost him very important championship points.

He continued that he did not envy Jonathan Goring or Dane Cameron’s standing on the podium. What made him annoyed was the fact that he had been one of the quickest drivers in the series and was robbed of what we have worked so hard to achieve. He just made himself optimistic by saying that this weekend’s disappointment must be turned into a challenge in order to achieve the podium at Toronto.

The 7th round of the Star Mazda Championship which is being presented by Goodyear will be staged in consonance with the Champ Car World Series on July 7 at Toronto, Canada.
