Garmin Nuvi 760 Review

There is a bewildering selection of in-car GPS systems to choose from nowadays. I have owned a little known brand (ie cheap) system for a little over a year now and have made do with this until a week ago. On a trip to an unfamiliar city a month ago, I was running late for an appointment and relied on my old GPS system to get me there. It did fine on getting me to the general area then proceeded to take me around the block. And around again. Then again. I came close to throwing the thing out of the window and vowed right there and then that I was going to invest in a decent system.

I did a lot of research on the web and eventually narrowed my choice down to three different models, two of them from Garmin and one from TomTom.  Eventually I settled and this is my Garmin Nuvi 760 review.

The Garmin Nuvi 760 includes multi-destination routing, spoken directions with real street names and integrated traffic receivers. This model also includes a picture viewer, an MP3 player, a world travel clock, currency and measurement converter and a calculator.

To be honest, I didn't see a real need for all the extras packed into this device but I was attracted by the good reputation that Garmin GPS units have. The only important thing for me was the accuracy and capabilities of the routing engine. That may seem obvious but it's easy to become sidetracked by all the other features that are packed into these devices nowadays.

I was not disappointed with the Garmin. It is fast to locate your current position and fast to calculate the best route. One minor niggle; The speaker volume could be a bit louder, normally not a problem but with the windows down and traveling at 70 mph it was a strain to hear. The Garmin 760 includes an FM transmitter to play directions through the car radio which I will investigate on my next trip.

Overall I am very happy with this GPS and believe I made a good choice.

Digital Microscopes

By: Marty Rubenski | 07/10/2009 | Science
Many of us probably remember the optical microscope from our school science classes. I remember carefully preparing a specimen, usually of an insect part or slice from a leaf or plant stem, and squashing this into a fragile glass slide. You then spent the next several minutes looking into the eye piece and fiddling with knobs and small mirrors trying to get it all intp focus. Does this sound familiar?

Pioneer PDP-5010FD Review

By: Marty Rubenski | 14/05/2009 | Electronics
A couple of months ago our old 36" TV started working when it felt like it and the sharpness of the picture wasn't what it once was. In the old-days, and I'm going back a long way here, you would bash the TV on the side to get it to work. Unfortunately, those days of quick home fixes for electronics have passed, so it was time to look for a new television.

The acai berry is popularly known as a superfood or superfruit. Tests revealed that it is the most nutritious and powerful food worldwide. Not known to many, natives of Brazil have been eating these berries for many generations already. It was somewhat an open secret especially to Brazilians.
