Buying a car can be one of the most stressful things anyone has ever done. Especially if you're a new teen driver trying to get your first set of wheels. Car dealerships have many market tricks and scams up their sleeves in order for you to buy from them. Here's just one example:
"Forget To Pay Off Your Trade In" Scam
You trade in your old car which you still owe money on, and the dealer is supposed to find someone to pay it off for you, and add that payoff amount to your new car purchase. Two months later you hear that the new car dealer did not pay off your old car loan. With this scam, dealers effectively pay you less for your trade than they promised. And legally, you become responsible for the payoff and not the dealer because the car loan is still in your name. This will destroy your credit and ultimately become a huge problem for you.
'
Not only is this only ONE of the countless scams you can run into, but with dealerships, you have to pay more than the car's factory value. So when buying a car, my advise is to stay away from dealerships. ESPECIALLY if you're buying new, because you'll just be paying way over priced for, you can find WAY cheaper used cars with only a couple hundred miles on them.
Classifieds can be great, but they do not offer the reliability of a dealership. You never know when the great deal you just got is going to break down in the middle of the highway.
The best solution that I've found when searching for my new car, is to use car AUCTIONS. Slightly used, but not enough to tell, and you can get these for DIRT CHEAP. Also, the convenience of eBay is at anyone's fingertips! eBay Motors has one of the best rated car auction system there is. You can find cars from all over the country, anywhere, and get them at a Dirt-Cheap, Auction priced. These cars will be guaranteed quality, and if they aren't, all the info will be right on the page.
I came across a really good site that helped me find my first car, and it was at a great value.
