For the past 45 years, the Ford Mustang has ruled the pony car segment, leading its chief competitors the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro in sales as well as in critical appeal. And no wonder – over the past few years alone Ford has incorporated the Mustang's heritage design to build a coupe that hearkens back to the days when hundreds of thousands of Mustangs were sold annually.
Fending Off New And Established Competition
Today, the Mustang soldiers on but Ford is not sitting on its laurels. With the Challenger making its return for the 2008 model year and the Camaro for the 2010 model year, Ford must defend the Mustang's turf against these and other competitors including the Toyota Camry Solara and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
For 2010, the Mustang offers a fresh new design, the next generation of the iconic muscle car. Along with a coupe and convertible, Ford is offering sun lovers another option – a glass roof Mustang. Yes, if you like a sun drenched interior but would prefer not to have the wind in your ears or the sun damaging your skin, then the 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang may be just what you want. Best of all, like all Mustangs the Glass Roof edition has earned five-star ratings in US government front, side and rollover tests, just the sort of safety features customers demand these days.
Quoting Chester Walawender, who is the Glass Technical Expert for Ford Product Development, “The Mustang's glass roof gives customers more of what they want, sunshine, while protecting against the sun's harmful rays. If an occupant wants less sun or additional privacy, a retractable mesh sun shade also comes standard.”
New 2010 Models Are On Sale Now
All 2010 edition Mustangs are in Ford dealerships now, having first been released in March. The advantages of the Glass Top edition to the convertible includes not having to worry about being burned by the sun, thereby necessitating wearing sunscreen. The glass roof has been designed to filter at least 90% of IR and UV rays while also doing a stellar job of minimizing internal heat gain. With air-conditioning running, occupants can enjoy a sun drenched experience while still remaining cool.
The Glass Roof Mustang was first introduced in 2008 with Ford saying that ten percent of Mustang buyers choose this $1995 option. The convertible remains an important seller too, accounting for approximately twenty-five percent of all Mustang sales. Thus, more than one-third of all Mustang buyers desire the sun-drenched appeal offered by these two Mustang models, underscoring why so many people embrace the original pony car.
