If you choose to paint the whole car it will require you to have five to six hours which will mainly depend on the make and model of the car putting in mind that there are cars that are bigger than others. There are several things that you will need in order to paint a car. These things will include sandpaper, a spray gun, a wire, a clear coat paint, a primer, urethane based paint, greaser remover, body putty as well as a masking tape. You should follow several steps carefully in order to complete this job successfully.

The first step when you are painting a vehicle will be to wash the vehicle with soap and water before doing anything else. The washing is meant to remove all the dirt that the body of the vehicle. The car should be washed properly and this is because this is what ensures that the proper finish of paint is applied to the vehicle. You should then use a wax or grease remover that is used for cleaning the dirt that is not soluble in water. You can also use liquid charcoal starter as well as mineral spirits for removing the non-soluble dirt. The rough areas of the car should then be rubbed with sandpaper.

You should then discharge all the static charge from the body of the vehicle in order to that it does not attract dust during the painting process. This is done by joining the chassis frame which is under the car with any grounded object using a wire. The entire body of the car should be completely dry before starting to paint. You should also tape out all the areas that you do not wish to paint using a masking a masking tape. If you do this properly you will add to the finish. All body patches that are present in the body of the car should be evened out using body putty.

The primer should then be applied on the entire surface that is to be painted and it should be done as evenly as possible. The primer should be scrubbed using sandpaper carefully until the entire surface is evened out. You should then select an urethane based paint for color and begin applying the base coat using a spray gun. This should be left to dry for about 15 minutes. After it has dried you should apply the second coat and leave this to dry for 30 to 90 minutes. Apply clear coats after the second coat dries.
