Mercedes Benz Tie Rods for Longer Tire Life and Safety on the Road

The Mercedes Tie Rods are primary parts of your car's steering system. They transmit force from the steering center link or the rack gear to the steering knuckle, causing the wheels to turn.

The steering system has to turn the wheels at the same rate and along the same plane in any condition and it cannot do this function without the tie rods and the ball joints. Tie rods ends, which are the inner end and the outer end, together with the ball joints, have the function of making sure that your car steers left and right the same time it hits any bumps on the road that could make the wheel shift up and down. The outer tie rod ends are connected to the steering knuckle that actually turns the front wheels. The inner tie rod ends are attached to either end of the center link and are served as pivot points for the steering gear. Moreover, the length of the tie rod can be altered for alignment purposes by an adjusting sleeve that's connected to the outer tie rod.

There are several factors that could contribute to the decrease in performance of your Mercedes Benz tie rods. They may be either worn-out or they may loosen or maybe even both. The reason behind this may be because of old age. If your tie rod has never been replaced, it's sure that its life span will not last any longer. Other factors could be the condition of the dust boots which has the function of keeping dirt and moisture out and keeping lubrication in at the same time. How often you use your car and what kinds of roads you drive it on can also be factors. This is because severe stress caused by heavy off-road traveling or over sized tires can also contribute to the deterioration of your Mercedes Benz tie rods.

How do you know when tie rods are no longer functioning well? Common indicators may be drifting tires, irregular and unsteady steering, and unwarranted tire erosion. If you noticed wobbling or wandering wheels, there must be really a problem with your tie rods. Also excessive, premature wearing out of your tires may be another one. It may look like these are only minor problems but these can be very dangerous. If your wheels are wobbling, chances are, you will have no control over your direction.

It is recommended that you check your Mercedes Benz tie rods once a year. If it happens to be loose or worn-out, the best thing to do is to replace them and have a wheel alignment at the same time because installing new tie rods upsets the toe setting. Replacing your Mercedes Benz tie rods may not only save you from inconveniences such as frequent wheel replacements, but more importantly, it will contribute to your overall road safety.
