Another success for DaimlerChrysler the producer of high quality Mercedes ML430 parts was achieved very recently when Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Trost the developer of Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist for commercial vehicles was awarded with the 2007 European Commercial Vehicle safety award. The award was given by the technical appraisal organization DEKRA, the German Traffic Safety Council (DVR), and the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis (EVU). Dr. Trost was honored for his outstanding contribution to the development of Active Brake Assist which has considerably improved the operating safety of commercial vehicles.
The award was presented at the 2nd DEKRA Active Safety Symposium in Klettwitz, Brandenburg. Dr. Trost being the head of the Driver Assistance Systems at DaimlerChrysler has the worldwide responsibility for developing safety and assistance functions for heavy commercial vehicles. The main focus of his work is directed towards the development of electronic architectures for commercial vehicles like the implementation of strategic projects such as “Steer by Wire” and other active safety systems.
This is not the first time that Dr. Trost and his team was recognized and was awarded. In the year 2002 Dr. Trost and his team was nominated for the “German Future Award—The Federal President’s Award for Technology and Innovation” in recognition for their development of an emergency braking system for heavy commercial vehicles, this was a part of the project that the team has been working on under the codename “Protector” at that time.
The 2007 European Commercial Vehicle Safety Award for this year will be the 18th time for it to be awarded. This award is given for outstanding technical innovation as well as to honor the life’s work of an individual. The recipients of this award are internationally renowned experts who have made an outstanding contribution to the safety of commercial vehicles.
The 2007 European Commercial vehicle Safety Award received by Dr. Trost and his team is to honor the life-saving technology of Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist which joins a list of similar awards just like the “Yellow Angel” presented by the ADAC.
Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist saves lives…
DaimlerChrysler aims to achieve “accident-free driving” to reduce cases of road accidents. The Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist spearheaded by Dr. Trost and his team will help realized the company’s dream of an “accident free driving”.
And to show just how committed DaimlerChrysler is to its goal it has recently presented what experts claimed to be as the world’s safest truck in series production to both the European Commission in Brussels and to high-ranking representatives from politics, associations, and technical appraisal organizations from 13 different countries. The Mercedes-Benz Safety Truck combines all currently available assistance and safety systems together with the Active Brake Assist system which has also entered series production.
The Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist has been in the market since autumn of 2006 and it is offered as part of the safety package that includes Telligent stability control, Telligent proximity cruise control, Telligent lane assist, and the driver airbag. Based from the proximity cruise control system, the Active Brake Assist automatically initiates emergency braking action especially in times of rear-end collision. And if in case rear-end collision is just cannot be avoided the Active Brake Assist reduced the impact speed to lessen injuries.
