Nissan February 2007 Sales in Europe Down by 4 Percent

Recently, Nissan Europe reported their sales for the month of February in the continent. The Asian brand reported sales of 32,468 units for the second month of 2007 and this is a decrease of four percent compared to February 2006. Year to date sales are also down by 5.3 percent for the Japanese brand.

The company suffered a reduced sale in Western Europe where they posted a 14 percent reduction in sales compared to last year. Spain, Italy and France proved to be tough customers for the brand which is evident on the reduced sales on the said countries.

In Spain, the company sold 4,255 units for the month of February, posting a reduction of 15.3 percent compared to February of 2006. Year to date sale for the country is also down by 19.1 percent.

In Italy, the company managed to sell 3,834 units which is a reduction of 14.6 percent compared to last year for the same period of time. Similar to Spain, the year to date sale in Italy is also down by 19.1 percent. In

France, Nissan sold 2,380 vehicles, a decrease of 29.1 percent compared to last year. Year to date sale for the country is also down by 37.1 percent.

These decreases in the sale in these countries is in part due to the run-out of Nissan’s three models near the end of last year which continues to haunt them at the start of 2007.

While Nissan Europe may have experienced decrease in their sales for three of their top five largest markets, they have enjoyed success on other parts of the continent. In the Russian region, the UK, Eastern Europe, and the Nordic Region, the company enjoyed good sales. In the countries of Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, Nissan sold 6,644 units for the month of February. The combined sales for the three countries show an 80 percent improvement over sales in February of 2006. Year to date sale for the three countries in the Russian region also shows improvement of 88.8 percent over the first two months of 2006.

Nissan Europe already sold 11,699 units of Nissan vehicles, which can be covered by Covercraft products, in the three countries for the first two months of this year.

In the United Kingdom, Nissan Europe reported sales of 2,235 units, an improvement of 3.7 percent over sales for the same month last year. The company has already sold 6,486 units in the region and this number is down by 16 percent compared to sales for the first two months of 2006.

In Eastern Europe, in Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, Nissan Europe sold 1,399 units which is an improvement of 38.2 percent over February of 2006. Year to date sales in Eastern and Central Europe has reached 2,261 vehicles sold.

Nissan Europe covers all of Europe’s auto market with dealerships in the countries of the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Cyprus, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltic States, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Israel and the French Overseas Territories. Overall, they employ about 12,000 people in the continent.

Last year, their European production reached 506,602 units in its Spanish and British facilities.
