Optimum Engine Performance With Acura Cold Air Intake

The automobile has evolved through the centuries, from the first stream powered car in 1672, to the first gasoline-powered vehicle in 1885. Today, car companies offer a wide range of vehicles from sedans to SUVs. Acura, mainly producers of luxury automobiles, has been making mark on the automotive industry since 1986. They still maintain a high standard in producing their vehicles and the parts that go along with them. One car part contributing consistently on achieving optimum performance for the Japanese-bred carmaker's vehicles is the Acura cold air intake.

The Acura cold air intake is a system used to reduce a car's air temperature. Its main purpose is to increase the power of the engine. All cold air intakes are designed to increase the amount of oxygen available for combustion with fuel. Since cooler air has more density on a given volume, cold air intakes generally work by introducing cooler air from outside the hot engine bay. The cold air intake's operation also depends on its production. One strategy used in designing cold air intakes is widening the diameter of the air intake, allowing increased airflow. Another way is smoothening the interior of the intake to reduce air resistance.

Intake systems come in different styles and are usually made from plastic, metal, rubber or composite materials like fiberglass, carbon fiber or kevlar. Intake systems are usually found directly inside the engine compartment. Their overall benefits depend on the specific application. Power may vary depending on the speed. Because of increased airflow and reduced covering, intake noise is usually greater. This kind of effect is achieved when a resonator is replaced by the intake. The result is an increased engine grunt and race car feel.
