They are not just ordinary machines running on ordinary engines with ordinary looks. Supercars are exactly what their names suggest them to be. They are high profile, they're sleek, they're expensive and they're out there. Supercars were always the rulers of the roads and this year, it's no different.
Right now, everybody is talking about the Bugatti Veyron, designed by Volkswagen which is one of the most recent supercars. It's being sold at $1.6 million, thus making it the most expensive car this season. The top speed is 253 mph and the acceleration from 0-60 happens in only 2.5 seconds, which means that it is the fastest accelerating machine too. The fuel consumption is high -44.4 L per 100 km and at full throttle, 115 L per 100 km. This means your fuel would get over in less than fifteen minutes.
Yet, the Shelby Super Cars' Ultimate Aero TT is THE fastest car and another of the recent supercars which is street-legal and generates a top speed of 257 mph. It costs $654,400 reaches 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. So this car tops the Bugatti in speed even though it is only half as expensive. This car took seven years to be designed. The 2008 prototype was a beauty to look at with a brand new aluminum engine and Azentek Atlas infotainment systems. Only 25 of these cars were estimated to be produced.
The BMW M3 Coupe is another recent supercar and it is the first V8 engine based M3 model. It only weighs 202 kg and the former six engine models were actually 15 kg heavier. The acceleration is 0-62 in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is 161 mph and the max engine speed is 8400 rpm. The M3 coupe has many firsts apart from the already mentioned. It is the first in its series to have a carbon fiber reinforced roof.
The Koenigsegg CCXR runs on a V8 bio fuel engine making it a green supercar -the first on the planet. With acceleration at 3.1 seconds (0-62 mph) and an estimated top speed of 250+ mph, this definitely is a car to reckon with. Of course there can be some gain when the power is optimized but that apart, this car is a wonderful thing to drive with a torque of 1060 nm at 6100 rpm. The base price is expected to be $2,370,000.
UK's Aston Martin DBS is a new force in the world of recent supercars with its V12 engine with new improved engine break with ceramic discs. This is a first for the street legal Aston Martin. The top speed is 191 mph and it can accelerate from 0-62 in 4.1 seconds. Only 300 cars are to be produced.
The Nissan R35 GT-R Skyline is one of the most closely followed cars because of its relatively economical price and great features. It can reach 62 mph at 3.5 seconds and the top speed is 193 mph. The price is said to be $69,000.
Well there are so many other recent supercars worthy of mention and recognition. Giants like Ferrari and Lamborghini have produced their own power contraptions. The Lamborghini Reventon, costing a million euros with a top speed of 210 mph with acceleration in 3.4 seconds is truly a ready-to-burst car as its name suggests. Only 20 pieces will be produced. Ferrari's Enzo and Aurea were two concepts that rocked the automobile world.
Just when you think that things can't get any better with a supercar, some genius of an engineer comes up with a new treat for the automobile fans across the world. When it comes to supercars, the race for the best only begins when it looks like it ends.
