Snow Socks For Tyres

Snow socks are a better alternative than snow chains for people who have to drive in snow and where snow falls can sometimes last for short periods. People who live in isolated areas or where salting trucks do not travel may be more affected. Snow chains can be cumbersome to fit and will not fit some cars where there is not enough of clearance.

Snow socks are easy to fit, light weight and come in a bag together with a pair of gloves for easy fitting and storage. They are ideally suited to countries where snow may be on roads for short distances and short periods of time. Unlike some other countries where snow chains are recommended by law and snow falls are almost guaranteed for several months of the year.

When fitting the snow sock, start at the top and pull evenly down both sides then drive half a wheel turn, either forwards or backwards and pull the sock over the remainder of the tyre. With its elasticised opening it fits snugly on the back of the tyre and as you drive along, the sock finds its own centre of gravity which prevents the sock from falling off. There are no other adjustments required and these socks are a quick and easy solution for you to find traction in the snow while driving.

When you want to remove the snow sock , grip the sock on the back of the tyre with both hands and pull it out over the top of the tyre and down both sides. Drive forward half a wheel turn and pull the remainder of the sock off, place it in the bag provided and place it in the boot or trunk of your car. It takes up minimal space and is reuseable and available to you for your next encounter with snow.

It might be a good idea when approaching a steep hill to place the snow sock on the tyres at the base of the hill as stopping on a hill with snow and ice can be difficult and dangerous and it also might be very difficult to fit the sock. Travelling on roads where there is no snow is not recommended when using these tyre socks as the tarmac surface, will wear the grip more quickly.
