Subaru Updates Outback Wagon

For the 2008 model year, Japanese car manufacturer Subaru decided to freshen up their Outback wagon. The wagon is initially and still is aimed at families who need the luggage and searing capacity of a wagon. As crossover popularity increases, Subaru decided to refresh their Outback to cope with the market.

The latest version of the Outback no longer exhibits one of the design cues on its predecessors. The plastic skirts sued on previous Outbacks are no longer integrated into the 2008 Subaru Outback.

The said skirts are now replaced by refined styling cues which are aimed at attracting more consumers. After all, a vehicles exterior is now one of the aspects that consumers are considering when buying a vehicle. As part of the redesigning of the Subaru Outback, it is now equipped with a chrome-trimmed grille and larger fog lights.

The refinement outside the Outback is complemented by the changes made to the interior of the Outback. Compared to the 2007 Outback, the latest model has better interior appeal brought on by the new leather used inside the Outback. The leather inside the wagon is accented by wood trims and an array of practical and easy-to-use features.

The Subaru Outback for the 2008 model year will of course come in many variants. The 2.5 XT Limited with a navigation system is touted as the best-equipped variant of the Outback. The front seat of the Outback is integrated with high-tech features. The centerpiece of the cockpit is the in-dash Global Positioning Satellite navigation system with a touch screen LCD display. According to experts, the navigational system is easy to use and understand.

A plus for the navigational system that comes with the top-of-the-line Outback is the positioning of its screen. Unlike some vehicles equipped with touch screen LCD, the Outback’s LCD display is located where navigating through its functions will be easy. Found high enough on the dash to be within reach of the driver, the LCD display of the navi system is a practical solution coming from Subaru. Programming the navigational system is also easy as the interface lets drivers input their destination easily.

What powers the 2008 model year Subaru Outback is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine which produces 243 horsepower with the help of a turbocharger and an improved Subaru cold air intake system. This power is needed by the Outback as it is a hefty vehicle. It tips the scale at 3,600 lbs and is 89 inches long. With those dimensions, the turbocharged engine’s power output will be put to good use.

Aside from the length of the vehicle, another factor which gives it that weight is its all-wheel drive system and its accompanying suspension system. Although these systems add weight to the vehicle, their presence is of utmost importance. With the all-wheel drive configuration, the Subaru Outback is an agile machine.

It uses a system which determines which wheel needs traction. If two wheels are enough to provide traction to the Outback, the system shuts down power to the other two wheels. If the system though senses that the vehicle is slipping, it will provide power to all the wheels or where it is needed most.

The combination of the Outback’s features and its performance makes it a good all-around package for families looking for a vehicle which can give them the space they need inside a car and a good performance.
