The Audi Quattro Golf Cup

The Audi the luxury unit of Volkswagen, maker of top-of-the-line VW Golf parts will hold the Audi Quattro Cup at the Millenium Lakes Golf and Country Club in Trincity on June 2. As a price the winner will get the $330,000 Audi A4 Sedan on one of the 11th holes for the main draw of the Cup’s Country Final.

The said tournament is to be participated by 92 golfers on 46 two-man teams that will qualify to tee off against the world’s best golfers at the 17th staging of the Audi Quattro Cup World Final which will be held at the world class resort Palmina Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico between November 15 and 19.

The current the defending champions are from Portugal and Spain. The media launch of the said event is going to be held in Trinidad and Tobago this year and according to Reyaz Ahamad, director of Audi’s local agents, Southern Sales & Service Company Ltd. inline with the event hey will also be launching Audi’s best-selling sports car, the Audi TT.

Aside from the expensive A4 at stake, Southern Sales will also be giving $300,000 dollars that will include airfare, accommodation, and other expenses for the winning team to travel to the Central American country.

It was in 1991 that the Audi Quattro Cup was inaugurated and since then has been held in 40 countries which include Australia, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, and Netherlands. It is expected that 80,000 or more of the world’s best amateur golfers will compete in various country tournaments.

Top local golfers with the likes of veteran Ray Roberts and Carlos “Sexy” Baynes are also expected to join the competition, which is open for players 18 years old and above. A shot gun start will signal the beginning of the tournament that is being organized by AMAPLAYA CEO Ron Ameerali.

Ameerali said, "I have absolutely no doubt that the Audi Quattro Cup Country Final is set to be a tremendous success. And I am equally confident that it will go on to establish itself firmly on the national golfing calendar and in the minds of golfers."

The team that wins first-place during the competition will receive two Calloway tour bags while the runners-up will be given Calloway putters. The third-place pair will have two Calloway traveling bags.
