The Benefits Of Irish Number Plates

There is a common misconception that number plates in the Republic of Ireland which is part of the EU and Northern Ireland are the same. This information is not correct and in fact they are very different in type and style.

What are the benefits of owning an Irish number plate?

Why they have become very popular in the later part of this decade with car owners on the UK mainland?

First of all you have to think why people buy personalised car number plates, and why would people choose an Irish number plate over a standard UK personalised plate?

An Irish Number plate can be transferred to the UK mainland and they are attractive and can be normally purchased cheaper then the comparable UK Number plate. It's a win, win situation. You are getting a personalised attractive number plate that you can give as a birthday or anniversary present at a lower cost then a standard UK number plate.

The prefix of the Irish number plates gives its success in terms of being desirable. They are made up of 3 letters, followed by up to 4 digits. They are dateless registrations which they contain either the letter I or Z. For example, popular combinations included GIL, HIL, CIL, EIL, MIL and more recently AIG. DIG and BIG all followed by 1, 2, 3, 4 numbers, i.e. BIG 8085 or DIG 1.

The highest a businessman has paid for a Northern Ireland number plate is just over £100,000 for the registration BIG 1.

Number plate transfers to the UK mainland from Northern Ireland are very simple and most providers of Irish number plates will assist you in the legal documents required by the DVLA.  What a good provider will do is request your vehicles documents V5C and MOT certificate if applicable, and then all you have to do is just wait, for your new road Tax Disc to drop through the door, and then fix on your new number plates. It really is that simple.

Irish number plates or cherished numbers as they are sometimes called are what is known as dateless plates meaning that they don't have an age identifier. This means that they can be transferred onto roadworthy vehicles in the UK. This is there second main advantage and can be kept and transferred to as many vehicles as you wish in your life time. Finally, Irish number plates represent a good investment as they are dateless they will hold and increase their value over time.

After reading this article, I hope you will consider purchasing an Irish number plate and there are many providers of Irish number plates available you just have to look on the Internet. Remember the best providers should help you with the transfer details and assist you in the order process when buying.
