There was a misconception at one time in this country that no one but shade tree mechanics utilized used parts to repair vehicles. A well-kept secret among those in the auto mechanic field, no one but those privy to this inner sanctum were aware of the gold mine that used parts represented. However, that is the case no more, the veil has been lifted and all the secrets of saving money with used parts that had been kept out of the hands of the average consumer are out in the open. Who was responsible for breaking the barrier of this once hidden and mysterious world of used auto parts? Where do these parts come from and how can the average consumer find them? All this and more will be answered in the following pages!
The mysterious world was actually brought forward into the light of day by none other than the primary dealers in used parts: the auto recyclers. Suppressed for years by dealerships that charged astronomical prices for new parts, it was inevitable that auto recyclers would one day break free of this oppression and call for consumers to unite against the absurd prices they were being charged. Slowly the word was getting out that quality used parts that had years and miles of use left were being cast aside though they worked just as well as a new part and cost many times less. Once consumers realized the savings to be had, it was only a matter of time until word spread and the demand for used auto parts grew.
Though the first few paragraphs of this article are a slight exaggeration of the how the growth in popularity of used parts happened, savings themselves are quite real. Used auto parts do save time and money for the everyday person who is trying to survive the pressure of the 21st century’s first recession.
One of the reasons these parts are so economical is the way that auto recyclers come about them. Automobiles are very intricate machines and require various parts of several systems to work in harmony to run the entire vehicle efficiently. The intricacy and elaborate nature of the vehicle lends itself perfectly to the used part industry. When a vehicle becomes inoperable for whatever reason, there are many systems on the vehicle that will not be affected in any way by whatever caused the car to become inoperable. Once the vehicle becomes inoperable, it loses most of its value-the ability to provide transportation. However, the adage “what is one man’s junk is another’s treasure” reaches no higher truth than here. Auto recyclers usually pay owners and insurance companies a small amount for the inoperable vehicle; after all, it can provide no usefulness to them in an inoperable state. Auto recyclers quickly and knowledgably access which parts are still in excellent working order and it is these parts that are then removed and resold. The prices can be so inexpensive simply because the auto recycler pays such a low amount for the inoperable vehicle in the first place.
Finding these used parts is much easier than one might think. A quick trip online can yield just the results needed. Used parts and great prices are as easy to find today as a few simple clicks of one’s mouse. Most reputable auto recyclers use direct access inventory systems, so even if the part isn’t available locally it is a simple matter to have what is needed ship right to the consumer’s door.
