Corey Putton is a 28-year old bachelor from Pittsburgh, PA who has been around cars for the better part of his life. He now works online and writes all about his passion: cars. He is also a certified mechanic.
Summer is the time when most people would have nothing to do but laze around and simply enjoy the summer sun. It would be the season when teenagers would be having the time of their lives cruising through the roads and enjoy the time of bliss without having to worry about school. However, it is also during the summer when many teenage drivers also do get involved in car crashes and it is also during this time when car crashes become the top cause of deaths in the US for those aged 15 to 20 years old.
Statistics do seem to have the answer to such a phenomenon. According to the Liberty Mutual as well as the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), the numbers of deaths may be attributed to the fact that more and more students are on the road driving. Teens also do spend around 44% greater hours on the road as compared to when school is still going on.
But despite such a trend, it is also important to note that deaths and crashes could be lessened with the guidance and help of these teenagers’ parents and guardians. The groups do suggest that these grown ups should be able to assist the teenage drivers in learning more about the ways of the road. It would also help if they would give the teenage drivers sanctions for every rule that has been broken. Reminding the young drivers about the do’s and don’ts when on the road and behind the wheel would also help out a lot. It would also be good if the drivers are given the responsibility of taking care of the vehicle - like maybe purchasing a new Husky liner if the old one gets damaged during the time that he is at the wheel.
Stephen Wallace is the chairperson for SADD and he also is the Chief Executive Officer for the mentioned group. On the situation, he shares, “It is refreshing to validate the influence parents have on their teen drivers and the fact that the tried and true measures we use to establish appropriate behavior in our children during their younger years - following through on consequences when expectations are not met - have the same powerful effect on teenagers.”
