Cherished Registrations can be sold or transferred from one vehicle to another.  If you want to buy a number plate but worried the process of transferring a cherished registration is going to be a long and complicated one. Well it is probably not as complicated as you might think and not as expensive either at only £80.00. Firstly, it is important to remember that a registration number is assigned to a vehicle. You can only transfer the number if you are a registered owner and it is registered at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Also you should be aware that not all number plates are transferable and not all vehicles are allowed to participate in the transferring of a cherished registration. Probably the most common reason for not being able to transfer a plate is if you are transferring a cherished number to make you vehicle look younger. If you are transferring your plate to another persons vehicle both of the registered keepers need to complete the from. Then just pop the £80 transfer fee in the envelope, your registration certificate or the new keeper supplement and V62 and V5C certificate and finally a test certificate if you vehicle is more than 3 years old. If however you need to re-tax your car there is just one more step to do before you can transfer your plate. You will need to complete your V10 form or the V11 reminder and send this along with your other details in the envelope to the DVLA. Also the payment of tax needs to be included along with you insurance certificate. Pop this in the post. Then all you need to do now is wait for your replacement tax disk to arrive in the post and your new MOT certificate.
