VSIB or Not VSIB That is the Question

Prompting this article concerning  tracking installations as a whole, including vehicle tracking installations.

A recent statement from the Board of the VSIB (Vehicle Systems Installation Board) that the company has gone into administration, throws up some searching questions regarding such acredditation body's!

For the protection of the general public and insurers, there is certainly a requirement for vetting car tracker installation companies. But instead of an ( independant !!) company setting up to do this, surly it would be a far better idea for the manufacturers to vet their own dealership's installation engineers.

Hey and guess what? that's exactly what most of them are already doing! For one thing, they know their own products, they know exactly whats required to install them safely and securely and they tend to get close up and personal with the engineers they are vetting.  They have a vested interest in their own equipment being installed correctly. I know it may seem obvious but, incorrect installation directly leads to re-visits or worse, making unhappy customers , and irritated installers.

The big question must be, do we need yet another body to either carry on where the VSIB left off? charging huge fees to become a member, or can the industry's manufacturers such as Smartrack, Cobra Trak, Tracker and Trackstar, carry on vetting their own appointed engineers?  I think the latter is the way forward, we need to keep the cowboys at bay I'm sure you would agree, but let the people with the most to loose do it, the manufacturers.

Our advise would be to look for a long term established Tracking Installation company, and forget about such things as the vsib. Cowboys tend to be here one minute and gone the next, years count, experience counts, look for these quality's and stay safe. 

At the end of the day, I think what we all like to see is quality tracking installations, with polite and skillful engineers. Not too much to ask is it?
