Windshield Crack Repair Checklist

By going through the following checklist to determine what it is your vehicle will need  before you choose a windshield crack repair professional, you can save yourself both time and money, and drive away with the best results possible.

  • Determine how big/extensive the damage is. There are four primary types of windshield rock chips that can occur, all of which create different shapes and types of damage. In most cases, any rock chip that can be completely covered by a quarter can be fixed using windshield chip repair. Anything bigger (or any windshield crack) may require windshield replacement. The location of the windshield chip might also dictate what kind of repairs you'll need, since damages too close to the edge of the windshield might be impossible to fix.
  • Determine what your insurance coverage is. Many comprehensive auto insurance policies will waive the insurer’s comprehensive deductible and reimburse the insurer for windshield crack repair or  windshield chip repair. Check with your auto insurance provider for more details.
  • Get a quote from a windshield crack professional. In many cases, you can email or send photos of the damage to get an accurate quote. Larger damages may require a visit; but in either case, your windshield crack repair professional should be able to give you a realistic price for the entire process.
  • Make an appointment. Small windshield rock chips can often be repaired at your home or office, and many windshield chip repair specialists provide mobile services that don't require you to leave home. They can get the repairs done in as little as 30 minutes and get you back on the road immediately. Larger windshield cracks may require you to bring your vehicle in for repairs, but you should still get flexibility and quick, professional services.
  • Act quickly. Even if the windshield crack isn't in your immediate line of vision, it does weaken the entire windshield. Small windshield cracks and chips can also spread with the weather, as well as regular wear and tear. It will save you money and potentially hazardous accidents if you get the necessary windshield crack repairs made as quickly as possible.

Perhaps the most important step in windshield crack and chip repair is to choose a professional you trust. You want your repairs to be done efficiently and cost-effectively, but you also need to be certain you're getting the quality repairs you deserve. Don't be afraid to ask questions or get referrals from others in your area.
