Caring for your Newborn Baby

Posted: Dec 01, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

When you are taking care of a newborn baby, you have a few points to consider. Those few points, however, are vital to the well-being of your baby. A newborn baby is very delicate so handling him should be done with extra care.

Feeding
In order to thrive, your baby must have the right kind of nutrition. So, you should know when you should feed your baby. This means that there are set limits; you cannot starve nor overfeed him. Follow the advice of a pediatrician as to the amount of milk your baby should take daily.

Bathing and cleansing
Your baby must be clean at all times. This means that you need to change his soiled diaper immediately. Use water and baby-safe soap to cleanse him at least once a week. Because your baby will more likely not get too dirty, you can just sponge bath him during the rest of the week.

Baby Massage
The power of a parent’s touch should never be underestimated. Massage your baby after a bath or to relax him before he goes to sleep. This will make him stronger physically and more emotionally secure. Make sure, however, that you do not massage him right before a bath.

Observing patterns and schedules
Observe what your baby is comfortable with. Find out his likes and dislikes.  If you know what he wants, you can easily respond.  This means that you know when it is time for a feed or for bedtime. Newborns sleep most of the times and wake up for feedings.
