Creative Ideas for a Baby Shower

Posted: Aug 27, 2010 |

If you are holding a baby shower for a friend or family member, you want the event to be special.  Such a joyous occasion deserves to be as unique as the mother-to-be.  One way to make the baby shower memorable is to hold it outdoors.  You can be certain that most of your guests have probably never attended an outdoor baby shower.  In today's busy and stress filled world, many people spend very little time outdoors in any sort of activity, so you could be providing them with an opportunity to de-stress while enjoying the fresh air in the great outdoors.

The most convenient way to hold a baby shower outside is in your own backyard.  Of course, to do this you have to have a yard that can accommodate the number of people who will be attending, as well as enough outdoor furniture for everyone.  If you don't have such a yard, another option is to use a local public park.  In many cities there are picnic areas available for reservation for private functions.  Many of these picnic areas have minimal kitchen-type facilities with running water, along with tables and seating.  Most city parks also have restroom facilities, which can be essential when a pregnant woman is part of your party!

While most people don't necessarily associate healthy eating with a picnic, nothing says that you can't have a menu that focuses on healthy eating and good nutrition.  You can be fairly certain that the mother-to-be is much more careful about what she is eating now that she is pregnant, and you don't want to do anything to sabotage her efforts.  By going with a healthy menu you might even make an impact on the eating habits of some of your guests.

One way to get your guests engaged in this plan for a healthy outdoor baby shower is to include the details on the baby shower invitation.  You could select an invitation style that matches your theme.  You might even consider inviting each guest to be a part of the healthy menu by making the event a potluck.  If you decide to go this route, it is important to include all the details on the baby shower invitations when you send them out to your guests.

The welcome home baby showers are mostly held a month or two after the baby is born to give the parents time to adjust. The nice thing about welcome home baby showers is that the Mommy-to-Be can tell her host and guests what she still needs for the baby, so it is a great way for her to get all the essentials she still does not have for the new baby.

The Origin of Baby Showers probably took place thousands of years ago in one of the earliest human civilizations, such as Egypt or Rome. Some historians believe they have found evidence that suggest women practiced similar types of events to what we call baby showers today.
