Scouting for the right agency in the 'sea' of baby modeling agencies out there, is your first step to ensuring your baby's modeling success. Unfortunately, a lot of agencies take advantage of parents who have limited knowledge about this industry. So be prepared...
So if you want to minimise your chances of getting under the wrong agency, here some steps to follow:
1. Make sure the agency you choose is for the right age group.It's advisable to look for agencies which are mainly for children because this means that all projects they book are for kids. In this way it is a lot more likely your baby will get casting calls. Moreover, these agencies usually get the first dibs on projects for babies i.e. photoshoots and TV ads.
2. Research their clients list. Do their baby models appear in reputable magazines or even land a role, whether main or supporting, on TV ads? It makes sence that if an agency has taken a few of their clients to stardom, your child will have more of a chance of being next in line.
3. The commission fee is reasonable. Every agency makes its money by taking a comission on whatever work they get for you. Beware that some agencies may ask for a comission that's so high that it leaves you next to nothing after all's done and dusted. There is no rule governing how much agencies should price, but if it's beyond 30% of the payment, better look for another agency.
The baby modeling agency you choose will represent you and your child in your modeling career. It is very important, for that reason, to keep in the know, and not just 'dive' in at the deep end. But if you keep in mind my tips above, the baby modeling agency you choose is likely to take you and your child to stardom.
