How To Treat Diaper Rash When Using Cloth Diapers
Stripping is something that every cloth diapering parent will have to do at least once. Your diapers need stripped when they have stink issues, repelling issues, or your child has developed a yeast infection. Stink issues and repelling issues are usually caused by the detergent. Your detergent can be building up in your diapers. Either you are using too much detergent or the wrong one. Buildup of minerals from hard water can also cause repelling.
So you have realized you need to strip now what? First you take your dirty diapers and do a wash. Wash without detergent. Place your machine on heavy duty. Most machines have hot/cold, warm/warm, warm/cold, and cold/cold. Start your wash with hot/cold. Then do another wash of hot/cold but with a squirt of Regular Dawn dishwashing soap. Next do wash of warm/warm with a second rinse and no detergent. When your cycle is on the last rinse check your water for suds. Not agitator suds but soap suds. If you turn the washer off the soap suds will remain for a bit. If you still have soap suds then do another rinse.
If your diapers have yeast you will need to also disinfect. This means using bleach, vinegar, or oxyclean. Check with your manufacturer on which to use. Once washed dry your diapers in the sun. If you can't try them in the sun then dry them on high heat in your dryer.
If you are still having problems then you may need to do the cycle again or contact your manufacturer. They will have other items that are approved to use on the diapers.
