While some creative people enjoy designing their own party games many hostesses are stumped when it comes to creating a game of their own. But there is no shortage of pre-designed games. While there are lots of game choices, some of the most popular are focused on names and the meaning of names.
This probably comes as no surprise since names can be so entertaining. A very simple baby names game is that of writing the chosen name for the baby at the top of a sheet of paper. Give a copy to each party guest and then start the clock. Allow two minutes for them to make up as many real words as they can from the letters contained in the name. The guest with the longest list wins.
Sometimes a baby shower is given before the parents have decided on a name. In this case the shower guests may actually help the parents out. Purchase or make a cute notebook that can be passed around to each guest. They can enter the name of their choice as well as a comment/suggestion, or two for their selection. This provides the parents with lots of new things to think about and a very nice keepsake to have. Imagine the fun of discussing these ideas with your child when he/she is old enough to understand.
Before the shower you can learn the meanings of each guest’s name. This can be used to create various games, such as asking each person to share the meaning of, or at least what they believe to be the meaning of their name. The one that comes the closest to the actual meaning wins. Another way to use this information is to list the guest in one column and the meanings in another, they should be mixed up. Then time the guests to match the name with the appropriate meaning. The person with all or the most correct matches wins.
With ideas like these it is easy to see why people look forward to baby showers – they’re fun!
