Lost Childhood

Hi there! Childhood has its wonderful joys, making it the best phase of  our lives...This poem is about that phase which I often miss..

I mourn, I grieve the passing away Of a childhood, that was pure and then ruled the day And a laughter, unselfish Keeping the passions at bay! Where evil would think twice, if in our lives, it ever were to venture The goodness poured into our tiny hearts, it was in eternal nurture Time's feisty grip had not yet tightened, not taken its toll Life was an endless illusion, blissful moments were on a roll
A time when a clear, untroubled soul reigned supreme Where each day was sprinkled with love, glowing like a sparkling stream Then bitter reality made a sudden inroad Like a discordant note from a broken chord With violence, anger and sin soon it became rife Unsettling the peace, the very rhythm of life

The cradle of innocence was, in a blink, snatched away Oh, how I mourn, I grieve the passing away Of an uncorrupted, childlike thought and how it held its sway!

My sweet innocent child! When I look into your lustrous eyes Bright, radiant, like a sun on the rise I see a life, playful & bright Twinkling eyes, shimmering light The expanse of the blue waves inside The ebb, the rise of the tide A profound serenity I discover The tinkling of your delightful laughter Like tiny, shiny pearls strung together The pitter patter of your tiny feet Footprints on the canvas of life, small & neat

My child, your sweet dimples! On each cheek, a deep depression Finely formed, each a fine impression Impressing upon the need to rejoice Life, a sprinkling of sugar, a dash of spice My child! I touch your skin, so lovely, so soft Like a cloud I feel, ready to rise over and waft A gentle touch, a loving act of kindness I get a sense of an incredible lightness The undulating rhythm of your mesmerising heartbeat Each beat a wonder, a marvelous feat

I bow to the almighty, pray a soulful prayer To keep intact your innocence, layer by layer Shield you from the grimness, the naked despair A life unkind, a life not fair… Then your tiny hand just lingers to touch mine A touch of magic, I know that everything will be fine!
