POLL: Do you have a recalled Maclaren Stroller?
Maclaren stroller is recalling one million strollers, produced between 1999 and 2009. The Maclaren stroller recall comes in response to 12 reports of children having their fingertips amputated when they became trapped in the stroller's hinges.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Maclaren have notified all Maclaren dealers about the recall, which technically goes into effect on Tuesday, November 10.
For parents, this type of baby stroller recall is their worst nightmare.
"I rely on these baby companies to develop products to keep my kids safe, not endanger them," said mom Amber Smith, 27, Louisville, Kentucky. "I can't believe so many kids had to be hurt before they realized this was a problem," she said in an interview.
If you have a Maclaren stroller, here's what you can do to ensure your child's safety:
1. Stop using your Maclaren stroller. Parents should avoid using all strollers manufactured since 1999.
2. Go to Maclaren's website or call their customer service department to get a free hinge cover sent to you.
3. Avoid using the stroller until you receive the hinge cover in the mail. Keep up to date with the Maclaren stroller recall.
The CPSC recommends that all parents keep their children away from strollers when they're folding and unfolding them to reduce the risk of pinched fingers. Make sure the stroller is completely locked once you've unfolded it. A partially open stroller can easily pinch your child's fingertips, resulting in accidents like those seen with the Maclaren Stroller Recall.
It's also to advisable to always purchase strollers new and return the warranty card, so you can be notified when recalls, such as the Maclaren Stroller Recall, take place.
