Making Baby Space

Posted: Feb 28, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Space for a new baby can be a big concern among new parents.  Babies have the need for some things that can take up a lot of space.  Bouncers, a changing area, clothing, a swing, a playpen, and a crib alone can take up a lot of room.  If you don't have a nursery to work with, then making room for all of the baby's stuff can be a real challenge.

You don't want to feel like there isn't room for your new baby.  You also don't want each room of your home to be so packed that there is no room to move around.  There are a few ways that you can make room for baby things.  We've come up with a few clever ways to make room for your baby without giving up too much of the room that you have for yourself.
Many baby items come in smaller sizes that are meant for apartments or additions to the parent's bedroom.  Some things, like play pens and cribs, come in special smaller sizes for day cares.  Shop around on day care supply sites to see if you can find a smaller crib than normal.  You won't need to use it for very long, so choosing one that takes up a small space is a great way to save space while the baby is little and needs so much extra stuff.  Smaller items like these are also easier to store if you want to save them for another child.

Getting creative with storage is also a great way to make room.  For instance, consider how much room a standard dresser takes up.  Now, think about using the vertical space in the room instead of the floor space.  A lingerie chest has smaller drawers that are perfect for all of those tiny baby items that you'll need storage for anyway.  You can even keep diapering supplies and medications in the drawers if you install baby proofing latches in them.  Don't forget to securely anchor furniture to studs in the walls for your baby's safety.

You can make a little extra room in your closet for baby clothes by using cascading or specialty hangers for your clothing.  Then, hang your baby's clothes on <a rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/4329638']);" href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers</a>, baby hangers, and children's hangers.  These hangers don't take up much space and they keep your baby's clothes from becoming stretched out or damaged.  You'll love having everything where you can easily see and reach it without crowding your small home with more furniture.
