Nelly - not a Common Name, But Still Full of History

The background and description of the name NELLY
This is a Feminine name, used in Scandinavia, mainly Norway, and in France and UK.
The name is pronounced: NEL-ee
Medieval pet form of ELEANOR or HELEN

ELEANOR
Is a feminine name mainly used in UK.
The name is pronounced: EL-en-or
The name has its roots from the French form of the Provençal name Alienor. It was borne by Eleanor of Aquitaine (12th century), the wife of both Louis VII, the king of France, and Henry II, the king of England. She was named Aenor after her mother, and was called by the Provençal phrase alia Aenor "the other Aenor" in order to distinguish her from her mother. More recently, this name was also borne by the wife of American president Franklin Roosevelt.

HELEN
Is a Feminine name used in various parts of Europe.
The name is used in English and in Greek Mythology, been Anglicized.
Pronounced: HEL-en
From the Greek ‘????? (Helene), probably from the Greek ‘????? (helene) "torch" or "corposant", or possibly from ?????? (selene) "moon". In Greek mythology Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda, who’s kidnapping by Paris, was the cause of the Trojan War. The name was also borne by Saint Helena, mother of the Roman emperor Constantine, who supposedly found the True Cross during a trip to Jerusalem. Another famous bearer was Helen Keller, the American author and lecturer who was both blind and deaf.

A strange use of the name pops up within the music industry since Cornell Haynes Jr. (born November 2, 1974), is best known by his stage name Nelly. He is a rapper from St. Louis, Missouri, who experienced popularity in the industry in the latter years.
Another famous person that uses this name is the Opera star Nellie Melba. Dame Nellie Melba (19 May 1861 – 23 February 1931), born Helen Porter Mitchell, legendary Australian opera soprano and probably the most famous of all sopranos, was the first Australian to achieve international recognition in the form. She and Dame May Whitty both became the first entertainers to become a DBE in 1918.
Also the famous singer Nelly Furtado can be added to the list. Nelly Kim Furtado (born December 2, 1978) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist, who also holds Portuguese citizenship. Furtado came to fame in 2000 with the release of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which featured her breakthrough Grammy Award-winning single "I'm like a Bird". After becoming a mother and releasing the less commercially successful Folklore (2003), she returned to prominence in 2006 with the release of Loose and its hit singles "Promiscuous", "Maneater", "Say It Right", and "All Good Things (Come to an End)".
Furtado is known for experimenting with different instruments, sounds, genres, languages, and vocal styles. This diversity has been influenced by her wide-ranging musical taste and her interest in different cultures.

Nelly has 9 variant forms: Nel, Nelida, Nell, Nella, Nellene, Nellie, Nellwen, Nellwin and Nellwyn.
