Putting a Baby on a Nap Schedule

Posted: Jun 07, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

The first step to successful parenting when it comes to napping is to get them on a schedule quickly. Even those that naturally follow a certain nap pattern by going with the flow need to be on a schedule otherwise things can get a little wild and cranky. A perk to having the baby on schedule is that you get to have your personal relaxation time as well. If you think about it a baby experiences a lot in one day. Babies will learn new things every moment of the day. It is nice to have a tad bit of sameness in their life to keep them at bay and comforting.

Most parents want the sameness and security for their child as they grow up. It is not easy to get organized and to keep everyone on this schedule. Children are not always easy to get a on a routine due to their boost of energy. Here are a few tips to ensure that your child stays on a sleep schedule:

The main thing to do is to make sure you are relaxed and to give yourself some time to adjust to everything. A baby is very unpredictable. They will sleep when you feel that it is time for them to eat and they will of course eat at odd hours when they should be sleeping. This can be very frustrating so just make sure that you are relaxed and at ease.

It is proven that schedules that are too hard on the child can actually be harmful, especially to small children. Maintaining a schedule to a certain time rather than the babies actual needs can actually medically as well as physically harm the baby. It can slow the progression of the brain and growth development. Although you want the baby to follow a certain schedule and it can be actually helpful, don't risk everything like the babies health to follow it. Keep an eye out for their needs as well.

Around the third or fourth month, the baby should be on a rhythm set by their own system. They have grown to know how it feels to be hungry and tired; therefore, they know when they need to eat or sleep. The rhythm itself usually is their schedule and repeats itself day by day. The child will make its own schedule and you will learn to live by it, too.
