If you are anything like me in my younger days i had 3 children under the age of 8.My husband worked nights and I was left "holding the baby" as it were.It was so easy to have small children under your feet and say at nightime when you are so tired oh just get in my bed but well! did I pay for it. If there was any advice I could give to parents now looking back it's pluck up the courage, find the strength to say "bedtime" and take them back to bed.Stick to your guns. You are the parent! you are the adult who knows what is best for them!. Don't be a push over!.Don't let them walk all over you!. they are not the responsible parent You are!
Don't let them keep coming downstairs saying "I need","I want","Can I have. Its all just a time wasting excersise to get your attention and before you know it you give in to them one night then one night turns into 2 and so on.My youngest son was 5 Years old, he would not go to bed until I did, as he was "really spoilt".These days we live busy lifestyles I bet you agreee it's anything for a quiet life, for peace and quiet.Saying "yes" or "oh go on then" just once lets your guard down especially at your weakest point Tiredness!.
If you have a partner you both have to agree on terms. its no use one saying yes and the other saying no,the children will play you up against each other.if you ever watch a tv programme called Super nanny one parent took a child back to bed approx 50 times in one night. Its all about Perseverance.Don't give in send them back to their own bed and then at the end of the day you can relax in your own bed saying ahhhhh peace at last and mean it!
Then you can get a good nights sleep.
