What are some Traditional Baby Names

When it comes to naming their babies, some parents like to stay with tradition. This means nothing that is too different such as Nevaeh, which is "heaven" spelled backwards, or a name such as "Ziggy." This simply means sticking to the more traditional names that include "Michael" and "Thomas."

Some individuals like to stay with tradition when naming a child after a parent or grandparent. There is also the fact that the most traditional names are the strongest of names. It is always good to evaluate every angle of a name because that child will be starting school someday and the child does have to live with the name for the rest of their life.

So what are some good traditional baby names?

Traditional names

There are a lot of traditional baby names to choose from. Here are some that you may wish to consider if you are expecting and looking for something more traditional:

Alexander
Catherine
Alice
Henry
John
Peter
Rebecca
Sarah
Elizabeth
Matthew

You probably know someone with one of these names. What makes traditional names so special is that they have literally stood the test of time. Some of these names are names that have been around for thousands of years. This more or less has a lot to do with biblical origins. Many of these names are names that were present in the Bible and it has been tradition throughout many families to choose a biblical name for their child.

You will find biblical names most common amongst the Christian population. Traditional names such as John, Peter, Sarah, Rebecca, and Matthew are true because of this. There are also a variety of other names that include Mark, Luke, and Joshua that are common traditional names because of their biblical placement. However, this is not the only reason why individuals choose these names. Again, family tradition has much to do with it. So does culture.

If family tradition is a part of the deal, do not stray away just because of what is popular. Some of the above names are actually on the list of most popular names. As a matter of fact, Matthew, Sarah, and John are on the top 100 list and tend to remain there.

Which way to go?

So it is up to you whether you want to choose a traditional baby name or one that is a little more on the modern side. There are modern baby names that are strong and to the point. They don’t have strange pronunciations or weird spellings. When choosing a name, these are things to look at.

With traditional, there is not really any room for guessing with a name. However, you may choose to stay with a traditional name but choose a different spelling. Traditional does not mean you do not have some room for creativity. You can be as creative as you want. If you stay traditional with the first name, have some fun with the middle name. Just make sure everything fits.

When naming your baby, you want a good name. You may not want to follow the same path of celebrities who name their kids after fruit. Then again, that may be the way you prefer. The great thing about naming your child is that you can name him/her whatever you feel is appropriate. You just have to keep in mind that what you name your child is going to be the name that they must use for the rest of their life.

Baby Names and What they Mean

When choosing a baby name, it is best to make sure the name goes with the surname. And to get really technical, it is important that first, middle, and last names fit together well. Even if your child is not going to be using their middle name on a regular basis, there will be a time in which it will need to be revealed, so you have to make sure everything fits. If it does not, you will find that there may be some issues in the future.
