What will baby Cameron wear?

Posted: Aug 27, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

A large part of all the party leaders' campaigns in the last general election was pointed towards this new idea of greener living and environment conservation. David Cameron and Nick Clegg certainly sold their policies and came into session. But we have to wonder if David Cameron will practice what he preaches when it comes to his home and family.

There are so many ways to do your part for the environment without inconveniencing yourself at all. By substituting your household goods for eco-friendly versions of them you can often gain improved quality and a good feeling for helping our planet. You can find eco cleaners for virtually every room of the house, including washing powder fabric softer etc. which give you softer clothes and less damage as they contain fewer chemicals and, where possible, are made of organic and natural materials.

So will Florence Cameron be treated to eco nappies and fair trade, organic clothes? Eco nappies are the easiest way for new parents to contribute to environment. Disposable nappies last about 5 hours before they are tossed in the bin where they take up a lot of room and cannot be recycled. With the average baby producing around 35 dirty nappies a week, they are taking up a lot of landfill space. No baby can go without nappies and therefore it's not a question of cutting down or being tighter the only way to go is "green".

Eco nappies are biodegradable and contain significantly fewer chemicals. They have no perfumes, brighteners or moisturisers in them reducing the chance of nappy rash and irritation, so while you are being kind to the environment you are also being kind to your baby.

There are eco wipes and eco nappy bags so you can turn the whole house ecologically friendly in your bid to do your part. David Cameron highlighted the importance of conserving the environment and while the government has lots of money and means to make marked changes, the man on the street can do his bit to, without even realising.

The recycling officer from a local council in our area has told us that there are so many disposables binned from a population of 145,000 people they would fill a Double Decker bus - every day! Many local authorities subsidise the purchase of our nappies. Keep your receipt and phone the Recycling Dept in your area
