Impact of Leadership Styles on Employee Motivation in The Banking Sector

In this article we have find out the relationship between leadership style and employees motivation in the Banking sector of Pakistan. This article also discusses how organization performance is affected by the relationship of leaders (management) and employees. The basic job of Management is the efficient and effective utilization of human resources for the achievement of organization objective. Effective utilization of human resource cannot be possible without motivate the employees of the organization. To motivate the employees, leadership styles play a vital role.

There are tow type of leadership styles as; democratic leadership and autocratic leadership. These leaders always orient their subordinates towards performance and authorized them rather than dependence. Under the democratic style of leadership employees are encouraged and allowed to participate in decision making, especially decision that will influence them. Employees will be more motivated if higher level of needs, such as esteem needs and self-actualization are satisfied within the organization. In Democratic leadership style employees are more satisfied and it has a positive impact on the employee behavior.

Most of the theories and empirical studies suggest that employees will be motivated under the leadership of a democratic supervisor, because they believe that they can share their problems, issues and suggestion with him easily. The behaviors of the employees can be change by empowering and encouraging them in decision making with in a motivational structure. However, leadership style effectiveness would be determined by the type of task and workforce itself, so democratic style may or may not always be the best.

On the other hand autocratic leadership style means believes in top to bottom approach. This approach is base on the X theory assumption where leader retains the maximum amount of power. A leader must have the ability to adjust the group action accordingly. All decisions are done by the leader and no consultation take place with the employees. In the organizations where managers do not trust their employees and high-volume production needs on a daily basis is used autocratic leadership approach.  Leadership style plays a significant role in the organization. Organizations could not run their activities smoothly and survive in market without leaders or mangers.

This study discussed Leadership style with reference to Human Resource Management. Employee motivation is a key of success of organization by increasing its performance, productivity and profitability. To convert an organization as high performing workplace, organizations should develop strong employee motivation and employee motivation can be developed through different means but this research has established the vitality of two variables such as Transformational leadership style and Transactional leadership style.

    Assalamualaikum. dear i read this article, and saying impresively that after dtudy this managers and leaders can seek some rules to motivate the employees. And also can be implemented in many firms, organizations, etc.
