Ace Diamond Boston Red Sox Baseball Round Up May 2010
What's up! Ace Diamond here with a Red Sox '"late spring update".. The Sox pitching has been floundering throughout April and the home town boys outfield has been in a shambles since "Ellsbury and Cameron" and Drew on occasion) have been sidelined by injury for several weeks. At this writing neither outfielder is 100%! The good news is: They are still playing decent ball and holding their own and they're actually on a good streak now! (just recently sweeping the "Rays" on their home turf) gaining some ground of late!, "Beltre & Big Poppy" are doing the job, along with some of the other regulars!! The bad new is: "If they don't get their act together soon the Rays, Yanks and even Blue Jays will leave them in the dust"!
Luckily the pitching has kicked into a gear in(May) as Lester, Buckholtz, Wakefield,
Lackey & Dice-K have improved immensely although Beckett's been placed on the DL in Late May) the bullpen's been just o.k,a few highlights with Bard & Papelbon.. But the Bosox hitting has been better than expected. This writer expects the "Beantown Boys" to make up a lot of ground and overtake a very talented young "Rays team" and then slip by the old Bronx Bombers in the standing sometime in late June/early July! we'll see? this is a "marathon not a sprint", as we all know! Go get 'em SOX!
Fenway Park is a great venue to see a ballgame and I've seen a lot of games over the years in Boston and with a very dedicated Red Sox fan base,I still believe the Sox will make the playoff's in 2010,as I predicted in April, that they'd nail down a wildcard slot! .. I'm tempted to get "real bold" here and say, just maybe our Boston team will win the division outright! I feel the "The "Rays" are playing beyond their potential(a very good team for years to come) and the Yanks I predict will cool off and maybe slide into the wildcard spot,oh well,nobody rreally knows?..But RED SOX Nation hopes it comes out that way and we go on to win another World Series in 2010!!! Now that's a really nice thought! (smile)
This writer has had a chance to see a number of Portland(ME.) Sea Dog games this season and it's apparent the Sox have a lot of talent down on the farm. Keep an eagle eye out for Casey Kelly-pitcher.. This 20-year old former shortstop/pitcher in College/A-Ball last year has decided to concentrate on "pitching only" this year at AA-Portland.(That's a tough league for a youngster, but watch for Casey to make the Big Leagues sometime in 2011..Casey defintely has "all the tools" to make the grade, if he can stay healthy, He's a "can't miss prospect"..in this writer's humble opinion.. We also have some other excellent position players and pitchers at AA-Portl and, ME. and AAA-Pawtucket, R.I. (the lower minors has several top prospects to boot!)
