Be Careful with Dunking – While dunking on an in ground basketball goal is generally safe, you should avoid dunking with portables entirely.  Also, even with most in ground hoops, you should be aware that damage that is done to the backboard due to dunking isn’t covered in the warrantee. There are a few basketball hoops that cover dunking, but they are only sold by one brand and are premium goals that can cost over a thousand dollars.

Look at the Basketball Backboard Material -  If you want a strong clue into how good of a rebound that the basketball backboard offers, you should just look at the backboard material. Glass is best of all because it is the most rigid, though it is also priciest. If you are looking for more a middle range basketball goal, then you are probably interested in either acrylic or polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is definitely way to go because lab tests have shown it to be five times more durable. Molded plastic is the cheapest of materials and you should  avoid it entirely unless you happen to be buying a basketball hoop for small children.
