Ncaa Basketball - Stephen Curry Surpass Scoring Record And Becomes One Of The Best Players In Ncaa

The current junior point guard of Davidson, 20-year-old Stephen Curry, surpassed the team's scoring record set by John Gerdy in 1979 in the game against Georgia Southern last Saturday. Curry needed 30 points to improve Gerdy's record and at the end the junior point guard scored 34 points, finishing with a total record of 2,488 points. With this, Curry has become the best all-time scorer in Davidson history and one of the best players in the college basketball level. Curry was named the Cinderella man of last year's NCAA tournament as he took Davidson to the Elite 8 for first time since 1969.

Curry started his basketball experience in high school playing for the Charlotte Christian School, were he was named all-state, all-conference, and MVP team as he scored over 1700 points during his time at that school. Curry also attended the Middle School at Queensway Christian School in Ontorio, Canada. During his time at Canada, Curry led his school team to an undefeated season and shot a 48% at the three point line. Despite of his success at the high school level, Curry didn't have any major college's scholarship offers; since many thought that maybe Curry couldn't handle the physical scenery of the major conferences. However, he proved them wrong, as he has had three amazing seasons with Davidson College.

During his freshman year, Coach McKillop was impressed with his ability and considered that Curry was a really special player. During that season, Curry led the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 21.5 points and having 4.6 rebounds per game. That freshman season, Curry took Davidson to the NCAA Tournament where they were the 13th seed but lost the first round against the University of Maryland 82-70. At the end of that season 2006-07, Curry received the award of the Conference Freshman of the Year, plus MVP tournament and other awards.

At his sophomore year, his impression in the conference and the league was more recognized, averaging 25.9 points per game and taking Davidson to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament, by beating well-recognized schools like Gonzaga, Georgetown University and Wisconsin, before loosing later against the actual champion Kansas with a score of 54-52. During these four games, Curry scored more than 30 points and his talent was acclaimed by a lot of followers. At the end of that season, people though that he would jump straight to the NBA, but instead he decided to stay in the college level and get more experience.

Currently in his junior year, Curry remains to be a key player for Davidson, averaging 29 points and 5.8 assists per game. And with a 24-6 overall record and a 17-2 conference record, Curry and his team expect to qualify for the NCAA tournament for a third time. For now Davidson has already qualified for the NIT Invitational and has captured the SoCon South Division title after having the best league overall record.

The next game of Davidson will be against Elon Phoenix, which will be the last game of the regular season and will be held on Monday March 2nd at Elon Phoenix University. Moreover, after that game, on Saturday March 7th, Davidson will play the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament. The victory at this conference tournament would give Davidson a place to the NCAA tournament. We hope the best for this great point guard and his team the Davidson College, which we'll be probably watching in the March Madness again this year.
