The Suns and the Lakers are in control of the Western Conference

After last weekend matches, the Suns and the Lakers lay joint top at the Western Conference, where each has won six matches and lost once. In yesterday’s game the Lakers ensured that the Hornets sting wasn’t going to stop them extend their winning streak to five matches. The Lakers playing at home, won 104-88 with the evergreen Kobe Bryant leading his team with 28 points. Chris Paul, for the visitors, ended the game with 15 points. The Hornets are on downward spiral managing two wins from their seven games they have played so far. For now they are outside the playoff selection bracket.

The Suns are the surprise team, who would have thought they would be at the top right now. Steve Nash seems to have regained his impressive form that had somehow fizzled out last season. Although it’s too early to start predicting how things will turn out, the Suns heat is surely deemed to burn a couple of teams along the way.

The Orlando Magic found themselves on the losing end against the Oklahoma City. Time will indeed tell if the Thunders are out of the difficult period they were experiencing last season. Their next game against the Sacramento Kings will be interesting since the Kings are just behind them.

In the Eastern Conference nothing has really changed, the Celtics are still at the top followed by the Miami Heat. The team whose footsteps have to be watched carefully are the Atlanta Hawks. Its not a team that makes headlines as such but if they are to remain where they are now, they will have enough reasons to appear in the headlines.

Iverson is a not settled man at his new team Memphis, he has taken a leave already. Ever since he left the Philadelphia 76ers he has never been the same. The kind of performance he had while playing at the Sixers has not sprung again. This cost him a place in representing the US basketball team in last year’s Beijing Olympic games. If things don’t turn around for him, we might be seeing one of the best players to play in the NBA in his final season. Whatever the case, Iverson has already put an indelible mark. When the NBA history will be written, a couple of pages will be reserved specially for him.
