Dispelling Breast Augmentation Myths

Breast augmentation has experienced a spotlight by the media and public eye over the past few decades as more and more individuals chose to undergo the procedure. As its popularity grows, so too do public concerns over the safety of the surgery; breast augmentation does come with surgical risks, as does any surgical procedure, but it is important to understand that not everything that is suggested by the public needs to be feared.

Here, we'll take a look at some misconceptions concerning Phoenix breast augmentation.

"It can cause cancer/disease." Various types of cancers and diseases have been rumored to have been attributed to breast augmentation ever since three Australian women in the 90's reported suffering from connective tissue disease following their surgeries. Breast augmentation has been though to increase the chances of breast cancer as well, spurring an understandable sense of fear towards the procedure. However, there have never been any scientific studies that prove that breast augmentation causes any type of cancer or disease aside from the natural risks associated with the treatment. These risks include implant rupture, a risk that is thoroughly explained during any reputable surgical consultation.

"The implant can leak." This is a true belief, though the severity to which it is regarded is debatable. Silicone implants can leak silicone gel into the body cavity and are difficult to detect due to the viscous nature of the silicone gel, so it is important to maintain consistent screenings to make sure that the implant has not ruptured. Saline implants, on the other hand, do not pose any risk if they rupture because the saline solution is naturally absorbed by the body and deflate at a more noticeable rate. Implant rupture can occur due to trauma to the breasts, as well as a variety of other factors.

"Your breasts will look strange." Phoenix breast augmentation is best performed under the care of a qualified and experienced surgical professional. This is your best way to prevent the chance of your breasts settling asymmetrically due to natural bodily processes or an incompetent surgical technique. Be sure to research your surgeon well and ask to see previous Phoenix breast augmentation procedures he or she has performed; that way, you can make sure that his or her work suits your needs and goals.
