4 Tips for Writing Great Blog Posts
If you want your website to rise to the top of the search engines, then an integrated blog can be a hugely beneficial tool. The fact is, Google and the other major search engines ABSOLUTELY LOVE blogs!
The regularly updated nature of a blog, and the ease in which keywords can be inserted into good quality, relevant content will help to move your main business website steadily up the rankings – just as it's done for my copywriting website!
But not everyone knows HOW to go about writing search engine friendly AND reader-friendly posts for their new business blogs.
So if you're just starting out in the blogosphere, here are a few useful tips to bear in mind…
i) Keep your blog posts short
The quality of the posts you write will determine the number of readers you have, but they needn't be thousands of words long. In fact, it's much better to keep them short and concise. Most people have short attention spans so a long post that goes on forever will probably only drive people away.
As a rule of thumb, I normally limit my posts to between 400-800 words. This is more than enough to provide a good quality post that offers value to the reader and hopefully convinces them to come back again and read more of your content.
ii) Choose a good headline
In any form of copywriting, a headline is crucial for capturing your readers' attention and pulling them into the main body copy. The headlines for your blog posts should be no different. You need to list the main benefit here, and make it clear that the reader is going to receive some useful information. Numbers often work well for headlines. For example, "Top 10 ways to boost your website orders" or "5 reasons why sales letters fail…"
If your posts have exciting, compelling headlines that make people take notice, you'll stand a much better chance of engaging your readers, retaining them, and then ultimately turning them into paying customers, whether it's for your product or an affiliate one.
iii) Offer Value
Another thing to bear in mind is that readers will always be asking themselves the question; "What's in it for me", whenever they land on a web page, whether it be a blog or a regular website. So when they arrive at your blog, they'll immediately be asking whether your blog post is of interest to them, whether it can help them, and what it can do for them.
Therefore, you need to write posts that address the big issues present in that niche, answer the main questions, provide the assistance that people need, and generally offer the visitor a reason to continue reading. Ultimately, your blog posts need to offer value to the reader.
iv) Be Unique
A good quality blog post will invariably have fresh, unique content. Otherwise people wouldn't need to visit your blog to read it. If you started a news blog and simply wrote about all the stories that appeared in the national newspapers, for example, you'd have a hard time finding readers, because most people would prefer to visit the original source.
Therefore, your blog needs to be different from everything else there, and offer something that can't be found elsewhere. That's the key to generating high levels of traffic. And once you start receiving this, you're then on the way to making serious money from your blog!
