Create Content For Your Blog By Following Other Bloggers

Posted: Mar 08, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

When it comes to content creation there are so many different places you can go to get ideas and inspiration for writing your next blog post.  To be a professional blogger it is essential you are blogging on a regular basis.

In this blog I am going to explain two different ways to help you with content creation:

1. The first way to create content for your blog is by keeping up with what other bloggers are saying

2. The second content creation method is called "blog riffing"

Create Content Using Other Bloggers

I was at Jack Humphrey's Friday Traffic Report blog and read this about content creation for bloggers:

"The other thing I pound into the heads of my bloggers at Blog Success is that they absolutely must keep up on the news and blogs in their niches.  We set up an entire "information overlord" system I created to keep track of everything going on in my niches so I can scoop great stories and know what's going on at all times in my industry."  Source : Friday Traffic Report - Blog Traffic

As Jack said you need a whole system of different ways at which to track your niche. You need to know what's happening and you need to keep up with latest developments.

Jack recommends that we use other bloggers as a great way to write new blog content and I have to agree that it really is one of the easiest ways to get ideas. You never copy what another blogger has written but sometimes something you read (or hear if it is a video) can spark inspiration in you to write your own content.

You want to ensure these are authority bloggers - experts in your niche who know what they are talking about!

Keeping up with what they write gives you another advantage. If you are one of the first to comment on their latest blog post (rather than ending up as comment 46 - because let's face it who looks down that far!) your comment appears at the top and there is more chance of the traffic that comes to their blog visiting yours as a result.

That is of course if you take the time to leave a comment that grabs people's attention -  not just "great blog post!" :) - If you don't know how writing blog comments can help you get traffic to your blog or you want to find out how to write a blog comment.

Another way to create content for your blog is called....

Blog Riffing

What is blog Riffing? Well you do exactly what I did above. I created content (and it is long enough to be a blog post on its own) using a quote I found at Jack's blog.

I took the quote and I linked back to the original article. Jack will receive a "trackback" notification on his blog to say someone linked to his post and if he accepts it I can then get visitors from his blog back to mine.

Plus, if you write great stuff about the quote and gush about the author there is also a chance they will notice you - which can help you make connections in your niche.

So, there you have it, two tips in one blog post. The importance of creating content by keeping up with what other bloggers write, and using blog riffing to help you create content by taking a quote from a blog and writing about it. Plus, as well as the content, you will also receive a trackback and get noticed by the blogger!

The term blog riffing has been taken from a post written by Antone Roundy that has a great title -  "More Blog Traffic – of the People, by the People, and for the People" - it is definitely worth going over there and having a read of that article.

Antone is taking us back to the days when as bloggers we helped each other out and blog riffing is a really great way to do that. I riff about you and if you enjoy the post you riff about me. Of course there is no obligation in any of this, it is all voluntary.

There is even a great badge that you can wear to identify yourself as a blog riffer!

How do you stay ahead of your niche? What methods do you use to write content for your blog?
