Twitter. Tweeting. Twit----whaaaat??? We've heard it thousands of times: in conversations with friends, on CNN as they read posts from their very own twitter page, and most of us now know that advertising has fallen ill with the Twitter flu. It sounds annoying at first because you may not understand the effects or even purpose behind having one.

As a company, you can use Twitter to stay engaged with your market and your competition. You can also use it as a press release platform for your brand, dishing out the latest and greatest news about your products. Overall, you are staying close to the information portal you desire. However you want to use Twitter to build your brand among the Internet audience is up to you. You control your own page. However, there are some quick tips that may help you use the site effectively.

First, think about your objective. What do you want to achieve for your brand? Do you want to be a social influencer, spreading messages to people about your brand and why they should love it? Or is this more of a way for you to stay connected and engaged with similar markets? Whatever your reasoning, figure it out before you jump on the bandwagon. You want to make sure you're getting the most out of Twitter while branding yourself to millions of followers.

The best way to get the most out of something is studying it first. Navigate the website, see what others are using it for, take notice of the conversations that are streaming. These things are important in the process of building your own image on Twitter.

If you want to leverage all the social media data out there to have the best possible campaign for branding yourself and building rank on twitter you need to use all the tools available. Targeting intelligence is the tool that can get you there.
