How To Run A Successful Blog For Fun And Profit

Posted: Jan 12, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Blogging is fast becoming one of the most popular internet activities. Bloggers use their blogs to do everything from tell their life stories, to promote products. There are millions of blogs out there. That's what makes it hard to stand out in the crowd. Here are a few tips to run a successful blog, and get more than just your friends and family to read what you have to say.

Getting Your Blog Started

Streamline the topics you talk about so it's very precise and targeted. If you talk about a b c d and e, but the main people you want to read your blog are only interested in b, then you'll want to focus on stuff only relating to b. Start another blog for the other stuff.

Don't use a free domain name like xyz.blogspot.com. Get your own domain name. It looks more professional if you use your own domain name apposed to one of the free ones. Also, try to have your domain name relate to your niche in some way. For example: xyz.com, xyzblog.com, myxyzblog.com etc.

Customize your blog theme. Don't use the same themes that everyone else uses. You don't want to blend into the sea of a million other bloggers. Design a blog yourself, hire someone to do it for you, or find a theme no one uses in your niche.

Fill It With Great Content

Next fill your blog with quality content that people in your niche can use. Create a lot of content and post it on a CONSISTENT basis. Consistency is key to getting repeat visitors to your blog. If you reel them in on the first visit, and then they come back a week later and you haven't posted anything new I doubt they'll be back for another visit. It's better to post one thing new every week, than to put up 50 articles in 2 days and then not post again for a month. Give your visitors a reason to come back.

If constant content creation isn't your thing, you can always hire an article ghost writer.  It may seem funny to outsource your blog writing, but lots of webmasters do it.  Your article ghost writer will learn about your niche and write using your voice, giving your readers the value they need.

Make Your Blog Interactive

Interact with your visitors in some way. Show them your personality. Give them something to latch onto. Most internet users will visit someone's website over and over if they like the blog author, or get a kick out of their point of views. Don't be afraid to put your personality into your writing, and blogging. Get personal!

If you feel you have a great blog, try and earn some affiliate commissions from it. If you're the leading blogger in your niche, people probably look to you for information on good products and services. Become an affiliate of products you like, and post your affiliate link on your blog. Then recommend it to your readers.

You can do a lot of different things on your blog. The only thing you have to keep in mind is whether what your putting up on your blog is helpful to your readers. If what you post isn't the highest quality, consider revising it until it's so high quality your readers won't want to go anywhere else.

The reason comes from one statement every blogger asks themselves, "What should I write about?" When you're up against writers block, hiring an article ghost writer can shatter that block to pieces.

A wonderful article that solves the reader's problem and entertains them along the way isn't going to do you any good without a good resource box. It really has to be perfect. Ask anybody who has split tested resource boxes and they'll tell you that one word switched out here or there could mean a major traffic difference. The success of your article marketing campaign largely depends on not just writing great content, but also writing a great resource box.
