Ever wonder how some bloggers always attract the most glued eyes and salivating tongues to their seemingly simple posts? What have they got that you don’t? Here are five easy tips that you can implement in your articles, blogs, and tweets to not only garner more readers but to compel them to share your message with their followers.
ONE: Offer value before pitching the value of your offer
It seems like everyone is selling something online today, whether it’s a product, service or idea. How they approach this end goal makes all the different. Since people hate to be sold and would rather choose to buy, structure your process by leading with valuable, useful information regardless of whether your prospects buys from you.
TWO: Tell readers how the information will help them.
Consider the following value propositions: “your MP3 player has the industry-leading file capacity of 250 GB!!” and “your MP3 player has enough storage to play your favorite tunes while you travel to the moon and back”. While the technology is the same, the second version speaks directly and specifically to the reader’s benefit.
THREE: beyond the normal topics
In the fewest words possible: be different! Writing about the normal topics in an average and non-opinionated way is the fastest way to have your content ignored. Unfortunately, this represents the majority of bloggers. Understand that the new online social media world rewards the outliers who have the courage to spearhead new topics, initiatives and strategies.
FOUR: Allow readers to identify with your articles
Always be aware of your post’s tone. Are you writing in terms of what you would do or what your reader could do or become. At first this was hard for me to grasp, being a left brain analytical thinker. Ask yourself the following question before writing: “am I putting myself in the reader’s shoes so that I hope to see things from their perspective?” Doing this will create in indelible personal bond that yields favorability to you and your message.
FIVE: Be open to criticizing yourself
This may be the most important. Maintaining a slight self-deprecatingly humorous tone is essential in social networking posts. It demonstrates that you’re a real and genuine person just like the reader. Alternatively, proclaiming your opinions as absolute truths emits the “me feeling” that will only compromise your post’s intensions.
As you can see, these five tips are easily understood and implemented. Writing a remarkable post and having countless people share it comes down to how you connect with the reader, how you make them feel upon leaving, and what value you contributed to their learning.
