Should I Submit To Blogs As Opposed To Article Directories?

Posted: Jan 29, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

Is it better to submit your articles to article directories or other blogs as guest posts? Truth be told, both offer benefits though in a slightly different way. Article directories make your content available to off-site readers and guest posts make your content available to off-site readers. But, in the end. Is one better than another? Let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Article marketing is essentially syndicating your content. I have personally used this method fairly extensively and have seen my articles pop up on many websites. For the most part, the resource links stay in tact and the "nofollow" attribute is not illegally applied. Well written articles that are not "self-serving" and that have catchy, link-bait-type titles seem to do much better and syndicate much further than boring and repetitive content that is just the same ol' stuff over and over again. One, however, really nice thing about syndication is the fact that contextual links to your site spread far and wide even if they do not all stick you can get some nice relevant fairly-contextual links. The number of links depends on how far you content gets syndicated. One of the problems with article marketing, however is that may syndicated articles have your resource links separated far from the content and this may devalue them slightly.

Guest blogging can also be a powerful tool in that you can gain links and readers from blogs with solid Page and Trust Rank. What is more, if you are able to successfully publish a guest post on a high traffic blog then the links you acquire are not structural links such as blogroll links or footer links, but contextual links or links within the content. How is this advantageous? Well, links in context are easy to classify for search engines such as certain words that may have different meanings but are spelled the same way. If you are an avid reader you probably know of words that are spelled the same such as "lead" as in "leader" or "lead" as in "the metal lead". However, by context, you know what the word means. Search engines are no different and contextual links reveal the true meaning of the link boosting your relevancy in the eyes of search engines. The one downfall of guest posting...you only get a couple of links and more often than not, they are sitting on a single soon-to-be archived post that has a Page and Trust Rank of PRNA-PR0 at best, which is not that beneficial.

So which is better? Honestly, the answer to that question will depend on a variety of things such as: the quality of your articles, who picks them up if you syndicate them, which blogs you submit to, which blog(s) publish(s) your article(s). Really, this scenario is far too dynamic to call. You will have to test and see for yourself. Personally, I believe that if you are a beginner, then article marketing is a great starting point because it is very easy to get started and build momentum. Guest blogging is a bit more advanced and getting approval is usually tougher whereas you can build your confidence with article marketing. I prefer article marketing because it seems to be a natural balance between guest posts and press releases and it offers some of the benefits of both. What has been your experience?
