The Pros and Cons of Video Blogging

Posted: Sep 11, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Blogging has become a huge part of the social networking scene.  People have found a great way to start expressing themselves and that's through creating their own blogs.  But you will continuously meet people who will admit that they are not great with words.  They are uncomfortable trying to put something into writing.  If this sounds like you then video blogging might just be right for you.  Here are some of the pros and cons of video blogging.

The Pros of Video Blogging:

People love to watch videos.  No wonder YouTube has over 17 million visitors each day.  Some people enjoy reading posts while others would much prefer watching a video.  Some people are very uncomfortable getting in from of a camcorder but there are other options to get around this.  You can start creating videos with pictures.  Maybe you took some photos at a family function or were out with friends celebrating a special occasion.  Make that into a video.  Or you can create a slide presentation using software like PowerPoint or Open Source.  Just start somewhere until you get more comfortable in front of the camera instead of behind it.

Another alternative is they now have software that will turn any article or written content into a video.  I know I mentioned earlier that some people don't believe they are good writers, but if you can just put your thoughts on paper, the software will do the rest for you.  It will take what you wrote, put it on different slides, even have someone else's voice read the words if you prefer or you can just add music instead.

The Cons of Video Blogging:

There are some disadvantages to video blogging as well.  Although you can use a free hosting platform, it's always best to have control over your own content.  Most hosting services have plenty of room for hosting large files but it also depends on what type of blog you are creating.  Videos do take some editing and then it's a little longer process to get them uploaded.  They can be a little more time consuming then just throwing up a written post.

Depending on internet connections, some readers will grow impatient if the video takes too long to play.  That can't be helped in some cases.  Also, most video bloggers will only upload a video every week instead of posting the written word every day.

There are just a few of the pros and cons of video blogging.  I'm sure there are other reasons people choose different blogging platforms but it's really every individual's own preference.  Some people prefer the written word, others enjoy doing videos where some would much prefer just throwing up an audio.  Whichever direction you choose to go, give video blogging a try.  It's a lot of fun once you get started.
