Chess is a wonderful game played by millions of people worldwide. Some people play it to interact with different people on an intellectual level. Others play the game to enjoy themselves and pass the time while other people are into chess just as a hobby.
In fact, there are many people all over the world who like to collect different chess sets. Sometimes, these people form groups or clubs to keep in touch with each other and help one another complete their collection. One fabulous group is known as Chess Collectors International. Just type the name into your favorite online search engine and they will pop right up.
There are many different types of chess sets to collect. They range from the common wooden type chess sets to the rarer and exotic themed chess sets. However, you can’t easily count out collectors who like to collect wooden sets because wooden sets can be more expensive, especially if they are antiques.
But sadly, there aren’t too many antique chess sets around for collection. Then again, that’s what makes them worth owning. Half the joy in collecting chess sets comes from the actual pursuit and acquisition of a particular rare set.
Starting your own collection might not be as hard as you might imagine. Some collectors didn’t even realize that they were collecting chess sets until they cleaned their office and saw that they already had a number of chess sets. Many collectors start out that way. Collecting chess sets isn’t supposed to be work. It should be second nature. In other words it’s supposed to be a fun hobby and should occur naturally.
You might want to start collecting chess sets portraying a particular theme, like a Star wars themed chess set or even a simple marble chess set. In the end, it all boils down to personal preference.
It is always a good idea to know a little about the history of your chess sets. Every chess set has a story, particularly antique sets made by notable chess makers. Not only does it make a great caption for your set but it also adds to the lore of your collection. People who aren’t into chess might be drawn into it due to your efforts to gather your collection’s history.
For a good example of how valuable it can be to present the histories of chess sets, go online and search for Jon’s Antique Chess Collection. Jon does a very good job of explaining the histories, and gives you an insight into why he owns various sets. In short, if a chess set has no story, it is not worth collecting.
Collecting chess sets can be an expensive hobby. If you are too concerned about the amount of money you’re spending collecting chess sets, you should take a break in your pursuits and don’t worry too much if a particular set escapes you. The hobby of collecting chess sets is usually a life long pursuit. And finally getting your hands on those sets that have escaped you before will only add to your satisfaction once you display them proudly in your home.

I am here to see if anyone knows of people / companies that buy rare chess sets. We bought this set in the Czech Republic, it seems to to have the Croatian Army versus the Czech Army, the pieces are heavy metal and hand painted and very ornate. We paid about £600 British pounds for it but are selling it for £500, if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated, we have no idea where or how to sell it xxxx
