Everybody is Good at Something

This is the slogan of a website called handymanweb.com.
True or not, it is certainly an optimistic view in times of economic turmoil.
While the stocks are down most of us are looking for ways to make our lives a little bit less expensive. Why not put our hobbies to work? If everybody is indeed good in at least one thing there is a lot of unused potential lying around!
In any case there are good reasons to find your handyman outside the yellow pages. Allow me to me share this example with you:

Some time ago I’ve done a modest remodeling job at my home. I added a small solar greenhouse to my living room. It was done by a registered and totally official construction company. Unfortunately this was no guarantee for a job well done. At first it was poorly finished and It was even leaking. When it was finally repaired it was done badly. I just found out the leak is still there and now they argue it’s all my fault. Phhhhhh.  The problem is that his company is just too big and I am completely unimportant to them. The carpenters and construction people have a strict nine to five mentality and obviously don’t care one bit about the quality of their work.

Next time I have a job to do I’ll make sure I’ll hand it to an independent and self employed person. They are usually better motivated, and less expensive.
And that’s what I like about this site handymanweb.com. Everybody can offer there services.  You can quickly zoom in to your own neighborhood, to see who is available. You can put up an ad whether you’re available all week or just on wednesday afternoon. It’s not restricted to construction related jobs. You can find administrative jobs, personal care, computer maintenance, child care etc.  It’s not yet filled up as it should be but it’s growing quickly. I will surely take a look at it for my next chore.
Now I come to think of it, I might even advertise my own services there:  Defender of the self employed. Seriously: I’m thinking to start my own company in P.R. and communication and I will add some announcements soon to give it a try. It’s an easy way to start.  And I am persuading my wife to put her doll-restoration hobby up too, because everybody is good at something!
