Have A Deep Understanding Of Your Chess Pieces

Posted: Nov 28, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

Chess is not a hard game to learn. If you desire to win games however, you should practice a lot and learn from your games. When it comes to chess you could say that it has some similarities to life, since one good or bad move can influence your entire game or life. Take chess tournaments for example; some say that for the level of chess the professionals play, that one mistake might easily give the match away. Some say that the first few moves of the game determine the result of the game. Many outcomes in life are similarly set in motion at the early stages.

You can most likely understand why professional players spend loads of time to develop their chess skills. To develop such advanced skills, they surely should have a grandmaster’s knowledge about the chess pieces under their command.

Experienced players often say that, in tight spots where you’re cornered by the opposition, you must choose which chess piece to sacrifice and which ones to keep. In life you need to make decisions and sacrifices as well.  For example, you might sacrifice going to the gym in order to relax with some friends.

As any experienced chess player will point out, it is a good idea to know as much as you can about all the pieces you control.

Knowing all you can about your pieces and how they move gives you two benefits.

1. You will know which chess pieces are important at which stage in the game.

2.  Knowing how chessmen move gives you an idea of what your opponent is going to do next.

Chess is an open game, meaning that anything can happen during a game. Knowing which piece your opponent is trying to put in an advantageous place on the board can really help you counter his strategy.

The queen and knight always have a good amount of options, though other pieces like the pawn and rook have limited options.

The other chess pieces are more effective when they are set up together with other pieces. And this is what makes chess so great. It is a very balanced game. In order to win a game, you can’t hope for miracles. You need to rely on your skills and experience.

Some chess pieces do well when played strategically with other chess pieces. The rook or simply the tower, is a chess piece that’s often used during the late game. However, if you could get this powerhouse out early, it has the potential to work great with almost all of the other chess pieces.

The bishop is a great chess piece that can be used to unexpectedly knock out some of your opponents pieces and can also give cover to pieces you control. This piece is certainly the bread and butter of most chess strategies and once partnered with your queen, can destroy the board. These are only some of the chess pieces that have synergy with one another and it is up to you to decide which pieces to use against opponents.
