Developing Muscular Calves

Having Muscular calves usually signifies a well built body.  The calves are the most ignored part of the body during workouts.  This is because the calves need a dedicated training plan, which is seldom followed religiously.  This makes one believe that the calf is a difficult area to develop.  Generally, all calf exercises are targeted toward the Gastrocnemius muscle, but since the Soleus muscle is the one that actually gives you the apperance of hving muscular calves it must also be well trained and developed.  The Gastrocnemius can be trained with the standing calf raises and the Soleus can be trained with the seated calf raises.  Incorporate enough variations with weights and ensure full range of motion in the workouts.  Use a wooden block for the toe.  Do a lot of static toe raises in between the sets to optimize the gains in achieving muscular calves.

Muscular calves can usually be developed through adequate calf training exercises.  If your calves do not respond it simply means one of the following problems:

You may not be successful in isolating and targeting the Gastrocnemius and Soleus muscles -in other words you are using poor form..
The second reason could be that you are not sufficiently executing the full range of motion, this plus bouncing at the top of any calf movement will not produce results.
The third reason is if your ankles are not flexible enough for a full range of motion
The fourth reason is that you are not trying enough exercise variations to target the calves from all possible angles

The fifth reason is that your calves are not recovering from workouts-.
The sixth reason could be that you are training your calves along with your upper body.
Extensive training of the upper body slows down blood supply to the lower body, because of which any amount of exercise results in reduced gains.
check all these six points i just mentioned and soon you will have well developed muscular calves.
below i am going to show you a little trick to develop muscular defined calves!
First your calves need constant muscular tension, think about this, i mean they carry you all day long without a whisper
so if you are going to make them grow you need
1. high intensity
2. heavy overload
3. no rest between sets
lets pick the standing calf raise, do a set with a heavy weight that will give you 25 reps to positive failure
when you are done, stand on your toes, do not rest without doing this!
rest whiles standing on your toes for 30 seconds and repeat the exercise
you will find that your reps will decrease to about 12 reps. do your best to reach positive muscular failure
then rest on your toes again for 30 seconds and then perform the exercise again
keep doing this until you can no longer do a single repetition!
this will give you the muscular calves you desire!
