Strenght Training - The Way To Strength Train

Posted: Feb 05, 2011 |

I love strength training. You must do it also unless you would not be reading this. What is strength training? Well to most of us it means getting stronger and bigger. You have muscles and you want more of them. Or you don't have them and you desperately want them.

I found myself having a very big problem with getting bigger for a long time. I tried so many things but I just did not get bigger. I thought that I had just hit the limits of my body. It was nothing I was willing to accept. I was always skinny and even though I had improved my body a lot I did not have the body I actually wanted.

First of all, in the gym we talk about "sets" and "reps". Sets means actually how often you will do one particular exercise and reps means how often you do it in every set. So for example if you are bench pressing and you do 4 "sets" with "6 reps each" that means you will bench press the weight 4 times with pauses in between and lifting it up 6 times in every 4 sets.

So what should you be doing when you are actually strength training and building up muscles? You should be doing heavier and fewer reps in every set. So focus on doing 6 reps the most in each set. 3-4 heavy sets is what you should be doing. Don't think you will get bigger muscles by doing 12 reps in every set, you will just start to burn calories by doing that.

If you are on the other hand looking for a way to cut down then you do more reps in every set.

Final tip for you. I always do what I call a "Super Set" at the end. So if I have been bench pressing, before I finish my exercise I take one set at the end which contains 3-4 sets in a row without any pause. The first set is heavy, the second is lighter and etc, by doing that you will get the most out of your body and build up stamina in the muscles also.
